The Jets aren't looking to trade Laine. The Leafs would trade Marner for this package as they can save $11 mil per to help get a decent d-man.

Comparing Laine to Marner isn’t very accurate. Imo Marner is the far better player.

It's not really unfair to compare Marner and Laine. Marner picks up more assists, but does so in a system where he doesn't help out defensively at all.

Laine scores more goals, while being younger and a far better two-way player with an infinitely better contract.

I could be wrong. But didn’t Marner receive selke votes last year. He finished like last out of all vote receivers but I feel like that is proof that he isn’t a liability.

Memarcus there is also only 1 year left on Laine’s contract which will increase to about the same as Marner’s.

Laine's next contract will be interesting. I don't think Chevy is as green or as prone to giving out horrendously overpaid contracts as Dubas is, at least judging by Chevy's history, but we'll see.
