I'd rather just keep Mackey and Backlund.

Backlund for Tarasenko might be interesting with retention on Tarasenko.

Lol hells to the no

What a joke of a trade. Lol.

Second one seems like an overpay but I don’t know much about Manson.
Backlund doesn’t have as much value as Flames fans think- he’s old, declining and gets paid like a 1/ 2C while being a 3C. Tarasenko is a wild card and expensive, but his potential upside could fetch a larger return IMO.

@RussianColt The Manson trade yeah, he isn't worth much but Tarasenko might be worth taking a gamble on if the Blues retain salary.

I would do Backlund for Tarasenko all day every day.

Then Monahan plus picks and prospects for Eichel

Gudreau-Eichel-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Tarasenko
Pelltier-Dube-Coleman
Pitlick-Lewis-Richie

You would have to find a way to get Lucic's cap hit off the books to make the salary cap work

@Greatscott

Buffalo will have trouble reaching the $60M cap floor even with Eichel's contract. Without Eichel's 10M per year they'll be way under the floor. They could easily take on the 2 years left on Lucic's contract.

Looch would provide experience, leadership, a physical presence, protection for young star players and be an instant fan favorite.

Buffalo has $28.6 million in cap space now, with Eichel's 10M/ yr gone that's 38.6 mil. Monahan and Lucic together are $11.625 mil total cap hit leaving Buffalo with 26.95M cap remaining. Still well under the floor but they have 3 young RFAs that need new contracts now to get them to the floor and still have plenty of cap space left.

So maybe something like Monahan and Lucic plus picks and prospects could be worked out. Otherwise Buffalo would have to retain a big chunk of salary on Eichel and that's tough for them to do with a contract that long.

@Websjac You're undervaluing Backlund big time.

Backlund is 2 years and 9 months years older than Tarasenko, that's not a big difference in age. He's been a solid 2C his entire career. Sure this year he played 3C most of the year but that doesn't mean he isn't still a capable 2C. Backlund isn't declining, he's still pretty much the same player he has been for years. He's very defensively responsible, contributes offensively, good on PP, good on the PK and he doesn't have a history of injury either. You know exactly what you're getting with him, a good all round player who can play up and down the lineup wherever he's needed.

I would not exactly label Backlund a 2C full. He is more of a 2/ 3 where he can be a 2C at times but is better suited as a 3c. But I will say his production curve is similar to Petry where he’s actually getting better as he ages. Still wouldn’t do the trade from St. Louis perspective. They might want young NHL players as they are few on prospects and younger players. There target from Calgary would be looking at Dube or another young NHL player.

@CTC55 I can live with that opinion. I actually think I might agree with you on that tbh.
