Flames won't give up Pelletier, he's one of their best prospects. Adding Anderson is unrealistic because they won't have the cap space next season once Huberdeau and Weegar's contracts kick in, Lucic is the only big contract off the books next season.

Flames counter : Josh Anderson to CGY for 1st, Jeremie Poirier, Milan Lucic & Kevin Rooney.

Habs respectfully decline Pelletier and any other lowball offer that includes marginal prospects with French surnames.

CGY fans seem to love Pelletier, so why not keep him?

Anderson isn’t on the market, but attracts the most interest from other teams. A lowball offer like this won’t change anyone’s minds.

Edmundson is expected to bring back the same kind of return as Chiarot did, so this OTT deal won’t cut it.

Last but not least, there is no two bigger NHL rivals than BOS-MTL, so it’s unlikely they get together on this or any other trade.

@Chickenfoot

I could see the Boston trade happening. Monahan's a rental and I don't really see why the habs would care if it made the Bruins better since they themselves are not making the playoffs. If he plans on re-signing there though, that might change things

@Chickenfoot

Let's not forget that the habs traded Plekanec as a rental to the leafs a few years back so trades between rivals is still a possibility

Do you really think if Montreal can get a 1st or equivalent to one for Anderson they wouldn’t make the trade? Seems like a no brainer to get out of that contract and get a high pick/ prospect for the rebuild.

MUSTA - trading between rivals can only happen if there's an overpay in play. Plekanec brought back a 2nd, if memory serves, which was a HUGE overpay in my mind.

I guess I still see it as "possible" but "unlikely" that Monahan returns a 1st. It will obviously depend upon how he plays when he returns, and if he can stay healthy. I suspect a 2nd or an equivalent prospect would be more likely. I see the Avs as the most likely destination.

EBS - Anderson isn't on the market. BUT. if someone offers a can't miss offer for him they'd have to consider it. Such an offer would have to include a 1st without question.

Sometimes each of us just don't see the value in a particular player, and I respect that you don't see the value in Anderson. However, even if you just go by what Hockey writers and pundits say, Anderson is clearly worth more than a 1st.

Also, at 5.5M x 4 more seasons, he is a great value contract, and is seen as such. (Especially as the cap rises. )

At 6-3, 227 lbs, and given his speed, physicality, and productivity, he and his contract aren't the albatross you make him out to be. His speed gave opposing D fits in the Habs run to the finals, and that's probably why GM's that call on him want him in their lineup.

I respect your point of view, but I think the prevailing consensus on Anderson is that hockey people hold him in much higher regard.

@Chickenfoot

If the Bruins aren't willing to give out a first, then I doubt MTL makes the trade. A 2nd line center with good offensive upside, good defensive abilities, good at faceoffs on an expiring deal is a hot commodity at the deadline. The habs can also retain half of his contract to make the trade fit under the cap so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of teams ask about him.

@Chickenfoot

I do agree though, that teams might be a little more cautious to pull the trigger since he's injured. If his play stays the same once he comes back, chances a lot of teams are calling and MTL asks for a first

MUSTA: I agree there will be a lot of teams interested in Monahan, but I see him as a solid, veteran, 3C whom you trust to play 8-10 solid minutes each night while crushing it in the dot. That's it, that's all.

Monahan will move and help someone, and the combined return of CGY's 1st to dump him plus whatever MTL trades him for at the deadline will be a tidy piece of business for MTL. I just don't see the B's as a fit, nor do I see them giving up a 1st for what Monahan is in 2023. Time will tell.
