So the Flames official asking price for Tkachuk is similar to Eichel. They want a top forward + premium prospect + pick.

To Calgary :
Matt Barzal + Aatu Raty + 1st

To New York :
Matthew Tkachuk

Makes the most sense in my head. I just can’t see how Blues, Nashville, Dallas get him without giving up Kyrou/Robertson/Forsberg. Stars fans want him but without giving up Robertson, he would be the main piece that Calgary would want.

I think that’s similar to Chicago expecting Norris, Tkachuk or Chabot back in return for DeBrincat, I don’t think it’ll happen. Foresberg is older and just just signed so I don’t know why you would think he’s an option. Switch Barzal with Beauvillier and add a 2nd and I think it’s closer.

chicagos ask for debrincat is going to be much different than calgary's ask for tkachuck ebs. calgary will still want to compete while chicago is starting a full on rebuild.

I guess I just don’t think a team will trade there young homegrown rising stars. I think instead of Kyrou/ Thomas + it makes more sense for St. Louis to do Barbashev ++.

@ebsolutely did you watch the trade video? Even Dorion was shocked he got him at that price lol it was a complete fumble by Chicago. I think this price would be more than fair for Tkachuk, he brings alot more to the table than Debrincat. He's bigger, physical, better defensively and is also a 40 goal scorer like Debrincat. Tkachuk is obviously the better player here. I also like the idea of Aatu Raty and Topi Ronni.
Mangiapane - Barzal - Lindholm would be a nice top line, although Mang is very streaky. It gives them a little more flexibility in free agency, they will have to resign Barzal i'm sure as soon as they get him to avoid this from happening again but Monahan and Lucic become UFAs next season so they can do it.

Calgary won’t get that much for Tkachuk- how can they, every GM knows they need to trade him now and there’s only 5 teams in the mix and only 2-3 that make financial sense.

22 Jul 2022 04:22:02
@Ebsolutely Calgary wouldn't be interested in Barbashev unless he comes with a contract extension already in place. Otherwise he's UFA next summer.

The return has to include a good player who is no older than 26 and has term or a younger player who will be under team control for a few more years before he's eligible to become a UFA.

@hockey dad you do realize the financial side of the deal is irrelevant because Calgary can afford to take cap back. They have 5-7 teams in the mix and that’s a lot of leverage. You’d have a player willing to sign long term and you have a team willingly to make cap work.

22 Jul 2022 12:16:08
@notacasual you do realize teams can just hold out and let him walk next year… GMs are allowed to phone each other.

No chance the Islanders add to a more valuable center to downgrade to a winger with an albatross contract.

22 Jul 2022 14:53:39
100 point power forward LW >>>> small 60 point center.

22 Jul 2022 21:53:19
Tkachuk isn’t a 100 point forward and Barzal isn’t a 60 point center! Be realistic there offensive potentials are probably about the same. I think Tkachuk probably has more value but don’t act like Tkachuk is nearly double the offensive player.

Ebsoultly talking logic.

Mathew Barzal
311 career points over 6 years, we'll call it 5 years since he only played 2 games in the first year. Most of that time spent on the first line, an offensive line. His best year was his first full year with 85 points which he hasn't come close to matching again. Trending down.

311/ 5 = 62.6 points

Matthew Tkachuk
382 career points over 6 years. Virtually all of the first 5 years spent on the second line, a shutdown line. His best year was this year with 104 points playing on the first line. Trending up.

382/ 6 = 63.667

That's just points. Add all the intangibles Tkachuk brings besides just points and he's clearly far more valuable than Barzal. As one site put it, he's a hockey unicorn, he can do it all, score, pass, hit, go to the net, battle for pucks, even fight (when necessary) .
